Cardinal Stafford’s blunt warning

November 16, 2008 by vicardwm

Cardinal Stafford, former Archbishop of Denver, has issued a blunt warning about the danger that Pres.-elect Obama poses to our country.

Of Roe vs. Wade, he said;

“Its scrupulous meanness has had catastrophic effects upon the unity and integrity of the American republic,”

He also said “If 1968 was the year of America’s ’suicide attempt,’ 2008 is the year of America’s exhaustion.”

Cardinal Stafford also said that Obama is “aggressive, disruptive and apocalyptic.”

Troop update

November 15, 2008 by vicardwm

We’re on Day 6 of the Novena and going strong (some are starting today on a slightly different novena).  I don’t know about anybody else, but the solidarity with others is giving me a strengthened motivation to pray.  The number of rosary pledges is approaching 25,000, and from what I’ve heard from several of you, there are quite a few more people praying the novena that don’t come to the website to pledge.  This is all due to people who have taken the initiative themselves to organize people for prayer.  Hopefully, this is something we can build upon for future efforts.

There have been some website updates that I haven’t mentioned.  The “power of the rosary” page is up (under Rosary) – check it out for some very inspiring stories of what can happen when enough people pray!  Also, the donation button is working, for those who asked for it.

Left to do is the “contact us” button and the “news” section.  I’m also going to add some other pro-life/spiritual warfare prayers when I get a chance.  It would be good for all of us to pray the St. Michael prayer daily, by the way…perhaps after the rosary.

God bless you all!

USCCB’s statement to Pres.-elect Obama

November 13, 2008 by vicardwm

The Bishops seem to be growing in courage; let’s pray that it continues.  Go here for the full statement of the USCCB, which was written by Cardinal George.

Here is a particularly good section:

On this issue, the legal protection of the unborn, the bishops are of one mind with Catholics and others of good will.  They are also pastors who have listened to women whose lives have been diminished because they believed they had no choice but to abort a baby.  Abortion is a medical procedure that kills, and the psychological and spiritual consequences are written in the sorrow and depression of many women and men.  The bishops are single-minded because they are, first of all, single-hearted.

The recent election was principally decided out of concern for the economy, for the loss of jobs and homes and financial security for families, here and around the world.  If the election is misinterpreted ideologically as a referendum on abortion, the unity desired by President-elect Obama and all Americans at this moment of crisis will be impossible to achieve.  Abortion kills not only unborn children; it destroys constitutional order and the common good, which is assured only when the life of every human being is legally protected.  Aggressively pro-abortion policies, legislation and executive orders will permanently alienate tens of millions of Americans, and would be seen by many as an attack on the free exercise of their religion.

Our prayers continue!  We have almost 20,000 rosaries pledged so far.  There are some ideas about how to keep this prayer army going and growing that I’d like to share with you as we get closer to the end of the novena.  If you have any similar ideas, I’d really appreciate your input.

Recent statements of bishops regarding abortion

November 11, 2008 by vicardwm

Some bishops have been making strong statements lately about President-elect Obama and abortion…here are just a couple:

Cardinal O’Malley (Boston): “My joy (over an African-American being elected President), however, is tempered by the knowledge that this man has a deplorable record when it comes to prolife issues, and is possibly in the pocket of Planned Parenthood, which, in its origins, was a very racist organization to eliminate the blacks, and it’s sort of ironic that he’s been co-opted by them.”

Cardinal George (Chicago): “If the Supreme Court’s Dred Scott decision, that African Americans were other people’s property and somehow less than persons, were still settled constitutional law, Mr. Obama would not be President of the United States.  Today, as was the case a hundred and fifty years ago, common ground cannot be found by destroying the common good.  The common good can never be adequately incarnated in any society when those waiting to be born can be legally killed at choice.”

Thank you for your courage, bishops!

Troop update – Prayer of the day, power of the rosary

November 11, 2008 by vicardwm

I’ve been writing a prayer of the day every top which is posted at the top of the web page.  It’s an optional prayer and goes along with the feast day/season and the novena.  Is anyone praying this prayer, and finding it useful?

Kat is still working very hard and has a lot more of the website up and running.  All of the rosary pages are now working (check out the neat Rosary widget under “How to Pray” and the stories about the power of the rosary), and most of the contact pages.

Everything is a work in progress, but the important thing is that we now have over 15,000 rosaries pledged!!  Hopefully, our army will someday pray as many rosaries as McDonald’s serves hamburgers, but you should know that when you are praying, you are joining more than 200 others, and the number is growing all of the time.

Remember to pray for the souls in Purgatory this month!  Besides the fact that it’s the right thing to do, you’ll gain friends in the heavenly places who will loyally intercede for you.  God bless you all!

Website additions

November 10, 2008 by vicardwm

As you can see, towards the top of the page, the Day of the novena is listed, as well as the mysteries to be prayed for the day.  Also, I have included an optional short prayer that goes along with the feast/season of the day.

At the bottom of the page, a printable Word file with the Rosary Intentions, as well as a nifty PDF file allowing you to keep track of where you are in the Novena are available for download.

Yes, I know – the additions don’t look that wonderful.  I’m a HTML Neanderthal…just be grateful I even figured out how to do it at all!  Once all of the essentials are up, we will start to add some of your great suggestions, like other pro-life prayers, bishop’s E-mails, etc.

For those who registered on this site only, please pledge on the main site if you have a chance.

God bless, and I hope we will have many more people joining us as time goes on.

Novena-related files

November 10, 2008 by vicardwm

If anyone would like either of two files (until we figure out how to get them up to the site), please let me know!

1) Is a printable Word file of the basic intentions of the novena.

2) Is a nice printable reference for the 72 day novena

Also, total number of pledged rosaries is now over 8000!  Keep it up, prayer warriors!!

Thank you, Kat!

November 10, 2008 by vicardwm

I want to give a gigantic THANK YOU to Kat Mills for putting together the website.  She gave up her weekend, and a lot of her sleep to pull the site together on such short notice!   I’m in awe of her dedication, and her patience at putting up with my seemingly endless requests.  I think it’s time for me to start learning how to modify websites!

Day 1 of the Novena

November 10, 2008 by vicardwm

Today is day one of the novena – today we pray the Joyful Mysteries.  The “mysteries of the day” will go up on the site, but we haven’t gotten quite that far yet.  We’ve had MANY signups just since the permanent site went up.  I will be calculating the number of rosaries pledged for now since we haven’t figured out how to automate it yet, but it’s clear that it’s well over 6000.

I will probably be E-mailing many of you to find out what state you are from.  In the future, we may put a map on the site that shows how many rosaries are pledged for each state.  I’m not sure if that will be in time for this novena or not, but it will be a good piece of information.  A little later today, there will be a comments field in the pledge signup.  At that time, if any of you who have already signed up here on the blog would re-sign up and put a note in the comments section that you’ve already pledged on the blog, that would be helpful.

Here’s an optional prayer to go along with today’s rosary (for the feast of St. Leo the Great):

God our Father, you gave St. Leo the Great the gifts of steadfast courage and persuasion.  Through his intercession, give us the steadfastness to persevere in the novena, and the courage to persuade others of Your Truth, especially in the area of respect for the great gift of life.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

This prayer will also go up on the website soon, and a printable list of the intentions as well.

Please be patient!!  This has all been pulled together in the last few days!

Permanent Website Up!!

November 9, 2008 by vicardwm

The permanent website is up at:  www.rosariesforlife.com

It’s nowhere near complete as of now – upgrades will be coming often for the first month or so…if you’ve already pledged to pray the rosary on this site, you do NOT need to re-pledge there.  As of now, we have about 5000 rosaries pledged, and we’ll be asking people to join us even in the middle of the novena.

Thanks so much for all of you who have signed up already…we’re just at the first step of what will eventually become a great army of prayer, God willing.

If you have any suggestions for the site, please comment here or E-mail me.

This site will now become something of a blog, and is linked from the main site.

God bless all of you!
